1Ulleungdo Lighthouse
No. 1 — Ulleungdo Lighthouse. On the lists of 8 of 10 AIs; median place there: 4. The AIs liked its dramatic volcanic scenery and trails, but winter ferry stops and a long crossing hold it back.

Why it is here
A reported plan would leave all 6 ferries serving Ulleung stopped for 15 days in December 2025. That risk of being cut off weighs on trip planning, even for an island with many walking trails. — (voice only)
History
In 1979, more fishing boats near Ulleungdo led to the lighthouse being changed from unmanned to manned. The shift marked its growing role in guiding boats in the area. — (voice only)
Keep in mind
The Pohang–Ulleungdo ferry takes about six hours overnight. Dokdo tours take about four hours round trip, with roughly 30 minutes on the islets if weather allows landing. Rough waves can delay or cancel sailings.
Where to go further
Start with Daepunggam (Taeha) Lighthouse on the northwest tip: a 20 m tower built in 2011. Then look at Malpbawi, a 19 m lighthouse reached only by boat.
